I know that my kids were heavily influenced by Ian's birthday gifts. He is a pretty neat kid with lots of fun toys including an iPod touch he got while we were there. I enjoyed listening to Boy George with him (his choice) and he indulged listening to West End Girls with me and singing along after the first chorus. Good times, good times...</div><div><br /><br /></div><div></div><div><br /><br /></div><div>Holden's wish list says:</div><div><br /></div><div>I would like a DS and pokemon cards and BAKUGAN and Star Wars people and laptop and a IPod Touch and a phone and a dog. </div><div><br /></div><div></div><div><br /></div><div>Needless to say, those last three will not be happening for quite some time. We have a netbook (a term my brother in law taught me) computer that is perfect for them, they may get a smaller version of the iPod and we have a phone and a dog already. As for the other stuff its a possibility. Holden has improved so much in school this year and I have to attribute that to Tom and his current teacher. Tom is in charge of his homework each night and Holden's been kicking butt and taking names with his spelling words making the Spelling Aces list almost every week and even gotten 100% on the pretest once. His reading is wonderful and he wants to read different things for a change. His current teacher and reading teacher are wonders! As parents we are so much LESS stressed this year over last. They are very communicative about what is going on in the classroom and specifically with our child. I could not be more thrilled with their work. <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoe2zbmeV_ogvWxZ9FKO3x6N11d8MsCtFPr3lGkdktpeVK-virmTWT8hN3MPQur_MICvqkDqJLlcq4T8nncEB0g5wewGhXOPlM5MUUUuNX_MVAEsluyPQXIpKVDsVfUwwVxTCNvb61UAVs/s1600-h/wish+list+Hope.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5277517205592002690" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 259px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 400px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoe2zbmeV_ogvWxZ9FKO3x6N11d8MsCtFPr3lGkdktpeVK-virmTWT8hN3MPQur_MICvqkDqJLlcq4T8nncEB0g5wewGhXOPlM5MUUUuNX_MVAEsluyPQXIpKVDsVfUwwVxTCNvb61UAVs/s400/wish+list+Hope.jpg" border="0" /></a></div><div>Hope's list is a little harder to read because she insisted on starting with a pink marker that didn't work out so well. It states that she would like a DS (the Nintendo DS). I'm pretty sure Santa will grace our house this year with these. We're finally entering that world as I've seen several articles that recommend it and seen games that will not turn them into vidiots (video idiots). The second item is a scooter, then a computer.</div><div>I have a feeling that she will get most of her list this year.</div><div> </div><div>I can't tell you how different this year is to have Tom home for the holidays. It didn't really sink in until we were putting the tree up this weekend and the kids (and me too, a few times) kept telling him he was putting things in the wrong place or doing it wrong. There are lots of traditions that the kids and I are used to that Tom has missed out on. It's so good to be able to share those with him now. This has been a good year...<br /></div><div></div><div><br /><br /></div><div></div>Mrs. McGrewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06976357285671434436noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3189283602995169910.post-55533160798274201812008-12-05T14:11:00.000-06:002008-12-05T14:12:44.362-06:00Good times Good times<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjxtAGBYuwFGhvih1DafOj9sI-5mIv7uRUbUD7YfydxP4KGTKWP0p0lLNg_z2lrnIBOpOIe8iuNp8d3BoUDzoc6niklxUkq6HIgxw9eR7eoj4X79XkRQKXZD8KWtE82AaA9XJsiZlFye1j/s1600-h/100_8327.JPG"><img style="CLEAR: both; FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjxtAGBYuwFGhvih1DafOj9sI-5mIv7uRUbUD7YfydxP4KGTKWP0p0lLNg_z2lrnIBOpOIe8iuNp8d3BoUDzoc6niklxUkq6HIgxw9eR7eoj4X79XkRQKXZD8KWtE82AaA9XJsiZlFye1j/s400/100_8327.JPG" border="0" /></a> <br />One of the highlights of this trip was the hay bales. I thought that they would just sit on top of them which was stupid of me. Then I thought they would just walk around on them. Then they decided they would run on them and I was a little skittish thinking they would stay on one row each. Then they discovered they would jump across them and play tag. Which was kind of fun until Hope went splat and slid between the rows. She was fine, but I was worried about them going over the other side. I can hear my grandmother saying I was overreacting, and none of her kids died. I let them continue with lots of "be careful" and "easy" and "not so rough." <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwcK6DidoBgNRyrbzUbYk4ecK7T_qJaRIFCHDnfi7hJRpoDKtUSF_UVQXiiGEao4R2_9DOr1Ha3OjJfNkI9cVbWzii02QAR6L621zxn-0WMmo-lN7x_wjK5XVspal4CgF1MNbB7kFjj9KC/s1600-h/100_8329.JPG"><img style="CLEAR: both; FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwcK6DidoBgNRyrbzUbYk4ecK7T_qJaRIFCHDnfi7hJRpoDKtUSF_UVQXiiGEao4R2_9DOr1Ha3OjJfNkI9cVbWzii02QAR6L621zxn-0WMmo-lN7x_wjK5XVspal4CgF1MNbB7kFjj9KC/s400/100_8329.JPG" border="0" /></a> <br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5S6Kiy7AdXcCduI28rEHDXADxnEvFYcQw88ApTT3vp46JkK84hbItp_qdyKKysiWxxZXwLMIMkUxPfTEZ8GZMljku4zLyr9SmRAPFQFiNhmRRnZ51xKI6k5iVqRLeApxL5xBocfDtPWIE/s1600-h/100_8341.JPG"><img style="CLEAR: both; FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5S6Kiy7AdXcCduI28rEHDXADxnEvFYcQw88ApTT3vp46JkK84hbItp_qdyKKysiWxxZXwLMIMkUxPfTEZ8GZMljku4zLyr9SmRAPFQFiNhmRRnZ51xKI6k5iVqRLeApxL5xBocfDtPWIE/s400/100_8341.JPG" border="0" /></a> <br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgY30MbdUVw_0R5Jps0rvENyKG-C_0KnQJZVProZ6IopmDoDA8Y5qzb5HGoclZ7KHSpwVXm9kXUsDct01p_oSKR6vYbGKCjJRgKtADCR7kd1Nt7xfec8U0aajxavGtEy2QR-1KNCdc6E5fr/s1600-h/100_8347.JPG"><img style="CLEAR: both; FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgY30MbdUVw_0R5Jps0rvENyKG-C_0KnQJZVProZ6IopmDoDA8Y5qzb5HGoclZ7KHSpwVXm9kXUsDct01p_oSKR6vYbGKCjJRgKtADCR7kd1Nt7xfec8U0aajxavGtEy2QR-1KNCdc6E5fr/s400/100_8347.JPG" border="0" /></a><div style='clear:both; text-align:LEFT'><a href='http://picasa.google.com/blogger/' target='ext'><img src='http://photos1.blogger.com/pbp.gif' alt='Posted by Picasa' style='border: 0px none ; padding: 0px; background: transparent none repeat scroll 0% 50%; -moz-background-clip: initial; -moz-background-origin: initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: initial;' align='middle' border='0' /></a></div>Mrs. McGrewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06976357285671434436noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3189283602995169910.post-75277245455780241832008-12-05T14:04:00.000-06:002008-12-05T14:05:18.139-06:00Thanksgiving in Kentucky<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgldvyFQzbJsEdS3xCsPMpBjA2YHcjV8glLp5mdR8iWxLUvf8RoetmC9dKxVkEXzVnqWx9o_TlEDF-0oJSHqJYlTWu8vsyJvyeK4w0qoHdeOLd9tf4qhpZPhOipYhpx_B9EEVaLJ1qbfpLV/s1600-h/100_8233.JPG"><img style="CLEAR: both; FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgldvyFQzbJsEdS3xCsPMpBjA2YHcjV8glLp5mdR8iWxLUvf8RoetmC9dKxVkEXzVnqWx9o_TlEDF-0oJSHqJYlTWu8vsyJvyeK4w0qoHdeOLd9tf4qhpZPhOipYhpx_B9EEVaLJ1qbfpLV/s400/100_8233.JPG" border="0" /></a> <br />It's been a while (8 years) since we have been to Kentucky for Thanksgiving. The last time we were there I was pregnant with Holden and got sick, I suspect the 8AM turkey feast. This year we arrived at 9:30 AM and the Thanksgiving spread was already laid out. I tried a little and made it through with little bathroom time. Tom and the kids were not so lucky.<br /><br /><br />I would like to make mention of the pictures. Here is Tom shortly after we arrived being put to work to clean the "crisco" out of the chimney. I'd say he did a great job given the tools he had to work with-- a long knife, a pole with about three bristles and an old metal fence post with a rope tied around it. Plus, a grumpy man telling him every few minutes that he's doing it wrong... what a good guy. While he was up there I mentioned that the gutters needed to be cleaned out and he took care of it with no complaints.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyFqNeUh8EXIn4Dzgg360LPqnQMn0S8yuWBox5geSIEIYxgf8NwTUl1ligdIjfhExiLtKUViX0Mbysoqwtl1G2sjitfvxwgMh6vIVZUTPMzaFvQAXZmh9T27xnYLQc1FZKJuJvmUC5qK90/s1600-h/100_8247.JPG"><img style="CLEAR: both; FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyFqNeUh8EXIn4Dzgg360LPqnQMn0S8yuWBox5geSIEIYxgf8NwTUl1ligdIjfhExiLtKUViX0Mbysoqwtl1G2sjitfvxwgMh6vIVZUTPMzaFvQAXZmh9T27xnYLQc1FZKJuJvmUC5qK90/s400/100_8247.JPG" border="0" /></a> <br /><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgk8UXjjCBOt9335b-FShjpW4qGs_eqWWJfy9aGrWOgs2-dBAMp79gyiZv8wQ_BPzFiYvRL4o5ANWdS-SWmxB2HDbUBIJjdBkOT7HH3q-YHhER3e97EGYjfUGoaS63Vzr3TpVCHxW6DuxlB/s1600-h/100_8260.JPG"><img style="CLEAR: both; FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgk8UXjjCBOt9335b-FShjpW4qGs_eqWWJfy9aGrWOgs2-dBAMp79gyiZv8wQ_BPzFiYvRL4o5ANWdS-SWmxB2HDbUBIJjdBkOT7HH3q-YHhER3e97EGYjfUGoaS63Vzr3TpVCHxW6DuxlB/s400/100_8260.JPG" border="0" /></a> <br /><br /><br />A new addition to the family was Wilbur the pig. I don't think you can tell in this picture but little Wilbur here has problems with his back legs. They are folded under so it's like he's walking on his knees. He's a cutie for now...<br />Before we left another pig showed up that was a little bigger and a female. We called her Charlotte, Tom called her future bacon.<br />These cows were also there. Notice the one on the right has a cleft lip. I didn't know that was possible in cows. It's an interesting menagerie to say the least. <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvsKkm5ROHpSkD4fzELVYOR9lBNlsX7T9A4Cn1UqgiKL4zk4Jv7hyphenhyphen5ihvwqW3DmA_Cfif8cazmMTIZ4ThuvnR2ylA7pbSvTsExRarezq0ctocZ6L8gSDU43IsT9etab6og1fvdk2mSbE3u/s1600-h/100_8315.JPG"><img style="CLEAR: both; FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvsKkm5ROHpSkD4fzELVYOR9lBNlsX7T9A4Cn1UqgiKL4zk4Jv7hyphenhyphen5ihvwqW3DmA_Cfif8cazmMTIZ4ThuvnR2ylA7pbSvTsExRarezq0ctocZ6L8gSDU43IsT9etab6og1fvdk2mSbE3u/s400/100_8315.JPG" border="0" /></a><div style='clear:both; text-align:LEFT'><a href='http://picasa.google.com/blogger/' target='ext'><img src='http://photos1.blogger.com/pbp.gif' alt='Posted by Picasa' style='border: 0px none ; padding: 0px; background: transparent none repeat scroll 0% 50%; -moz-background-clip: initial; -moz-background-origin: initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: initial;' align='middle' border='0' /></a></div>Mrs. McGrewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06976357285671434436noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3189283602995169910.post-6378223920285406772008-12-05T13:51:00.000-06:002008-12-05T13:51:47.072-06:00Good times at Grandpa D and Grandma Gs house<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiN0KF33xL6vuH80j5_eisG89Y88iN0D4AmByO4A4PY-76o3z2EYa_U4Z1Pj-6gVBmbZatSp_41Mu8TjziRP7PVC2V-zCVsFlpy0dL_vZ5Ix3NiJ7oV88MRFzSG9z9GoxgopWAat1MBG9yE/s1600-h/100_8222.JPG"><img style="CLEAR: both; FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiN0KF33xL6vuH80j5_eisG89Y88iN0D4AmByO4A4PY-76o3z2EYa_U4Z1Pj-6gVBmbZatSp_41Mu8TjziRP7PVC2V-zCVsFlpy0dL_vZ5Ix3NiJ7oV88MRFzSG9z9GoxgopWAat1MBG9yE/s400/100_8222.JPG" border="0" /></a> <br />Hope was thrilled to be able to collect the eggs with Grandma G. These are the 7th and 8th grade boys doing archery in gym class. The boy in the middle forgot his gym clothes. It's really a pretty cool thing and from what I've been told this is the only school in Missouri that has archery. Not really a surprise. What is surprising is how much the kids love this unit and what a great job they do with it. I got a chance to use the compound bow the other day and it was cool, plus I did really well-- one ring out from the bullseye.<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHdtq6TntRN0nccA3JSdGk7Wt4F7-BVHzLRiZRDcm5C9kz3YrmSKwuKTBsI2MJKjFXK7i81x9H50VQoctkjzbqK1Mo-Isdjo2Yisj-hPVD6-ByCIcVJKPnreCyCtrU6kscDG5sr5_6CZBh/s1600-h/100_8202.jpg"><img style="CLEAR: both; FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHdtq6TntRN0nccA3JSdGk7Wt4F7-BVHzLRiZRDcm5C9kz3YrmSKwuKTBsI2MJKjFXK7i81x9H50VQoctkjzbqK1Mo-Isdjo2Yisj-hPVD6-ByCIcVJKPnreCyCtrU6kscDG5sr5_6CZBh/s400/100_8202.jpg" border="0" /></a><div style='clear:both; text-align:LEFT'><a href='http://picasa.google.com/blogger/' target='ext'><img src='http://photos1.blogger.com/pbp.gif' alt='Posted by Picasa' style='border: 0px none ; padding: 0px; background: transparent none repeat scroll 0% 50%; -moz-background-clip: initial; -moz-background-origin: initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: initial;' align='middle' border='0' /></a></div>Mrs. McGrewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06976357285671434436noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3189283602995169910.post-38995665253743075172008-11-17T17:54:00.004-06:002008-11-17T17:58:36.602-06:00Hope's picture of moi<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiODkwe5ed7JWvZjELL468xzlSEN3YtsvobLZPUtBji8nqJ94SigIO32-6oUitYLhqQFgvnOyK2JmPjXmidm4s1xYm3wBEPDCAZGbuoFxV6pUXdFCgQ-L3yyMCR1Gnyme1qbPOYxN-Zpdej/s1600-h/Hope's+pic+of+me.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5269779596812598370" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 294px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiODkwe5ed7JWvZjELL468xzlSEN3YtsvobLZPUtBji8nqJ94SigIO32-6oUitYLhqQFgvnOyK2JmPjXmidm4s1xYm3wBEPDCAZGbuoFxV6pUXdFCgQ-L3yyMCR1Gnyme1qbPOYxN-Zpdej/s320/Hope's+pic+of+me.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><div>Hope came home with this picture of me she did at school last week. Apparently, Tom. He'd never heard of it before. I'm not sure how that is even possible?<br />The base craft shop was having a going out of business sale and I happened across them. I remember my friends having them, specifically a Smurf set, but I don't think we ever had them.<br />At first just Hope was willing to play with them, but Holden quickly got interested. I told them to just use one sheet for now, but when I came back to the dining room after cleaning up the kitchen there was only one of 5 sheets still there. Something was obviously lost in thier translation of it. They made some neat shapes and we fired them up in the oven. We did learn that for next time the shapes they cut out should be rounded becuase they would make a great weapon after cooking. In other words, there are no shrinky dinks in the prison craft center cause they'd make a great shank. As we are trying to encourage love and harmony between the two, the dangerous ones went into a baggie that "accidently" disappeared.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj51f9iYTcoa1zsFo4oDcypYFewvPuIfX2cGPgQexX6s2FEMBGqwmeaF4At_4zQDeYenbNlVkr6r1w64Oab5E9M7ZQvxyowSGlmFYMsfADeV0VZRaGQAz0pZiCNqWM2T4I5J1axSliUuC9C/s1600-h/After+Halloween+027.jpg"><img style="CLEAR: both; FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj51f9iYTcoa1zsFo4oDcypYFewvPuIfX2cGPgQexX6s2FEMBGqwmeaF4At_4zQDeYenbNlVkr6r1w64Oab5E9M7ZQvxyowSGlmFYMsfADeV0VZRaGQAz0pZiCNqWM2T4I5J1axSliUuC9C/s320/After+Halloween+027.jpg" border="0" /></a> Even Tom was intrigued when the project was over. Unfortunately this was her last game and there was a parent brawl, but she cheered nonetheless! It looked pretty neat with the dew weighing it down. I wish I had been able to get a better shot of it, but I think it will take a better photographer/camera for that to happen. <br /><br /><br /><br />These are a few of our pumpkins that we carved. The first is a simple face with no mouth (perhaps, wishful thinking on my part?). The next one is all Tom's design and the final one is our version of Cinderella's carriage. Holden didn't enjoy Halloween so much this year. He really wanted to go with his friend, but we made him stay with us. He had very little candy, which for him isn't a big deal. Tom and I had a wonderful time. I realized that it was his first time home in five years for <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjY7Nu16agIrtvWVNpydeJQ6Usmb7S0DOVcMiWQ6YNsMV4CMk6F9CEgBIDLx4kN6Hgtx-1NWpVZF0yLf4FiZBnWPdnKzpt9JvLQZZqriqSEw6pw-7vDhyphenhyphenimTLvblYviqe8RDLnLo2bFxnCP/s1600-h/Halloween+002.jpg"><img style="CLEAR: both; FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjY7Nu16agIrtvWVNpydeJQ6Usmb7S0DOVcMiWQ6YNsMV4CMk6F9CEgBIDLx4kN6Hgtx-1NWpVZF0yLf4FiZBnWPdnKzpt9JvLQZZqriqSEw6pw-7vDhyphenhyphenimTLvblYviqe8RDLnLo2bFxnCP/s400/Halloween+002.jpg" border="0" /></a>Halloween. He hasn't been around for one (and it's our favorite holiday) since Hope was a baby.<br />Hope was a cowgirl complete with lasso rope and cowgirl hat she wanted Tom to wear halfway through trick or treating. This picture is of her before school. Doesn't she look happy?<br />Tom and I decided to have a short party before trick or treating was to begin. He created the games for them to play. The one with Holden (aka Indiana Jones) below is where the kids had to make it through the spooky haunted house with arms that were alive and couldn't touch you to get the silver apple. The kids thought it was great and had a good time. One of the other games we had was Dress Tom for Halloween. Tom couldn't decide what he wanted to be so we decided on a mummy. With everything going on he didn't have time to wrap himself so we let the kids do it. I think they enjoyed that the most. To his credit, he wore the wrappings through the housing area the whole time stopping every so often to pick up parts that had fallen off. The last picture is from Tom and I sitting on the swing waiting for trick or treaters (which didn't really come becasue of the construction). He pointed out the big spider right beside me and I thought it might be cool to try and get a picture of it with the luminaries in the background. Kind of turned out neat. Wish I had a better camera (perhaps for Christmas).<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7Xowb45Dfsg400HReBZiAROWAHTRUbGyQz9yezB1Q04OaHXruR1HWalkVXXt4WdvbKOqBs7X_0T2fyhmk3jSLeJTume95A0nhQumQ4PyS6z3w0bEMisQuSB0fj1zVl3f-QAvmongQDSPt/s1600-h/Halloween+005.jpg"><img style="CLEAR: both; FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7Xowb45Dfsg400HReBZiAROWAHTRUbGyQz9yezB1Q04OaHXruR1HWalkVXXt4WdvbKOqBs7X_0T2fyhmk3jSLeJTume95A0nhQumQ4PyS6z3w0bEMisQuSB0fj1zVl3f-QAvmongQDSPt/s400/Halloween+005.jpg" border="0" /></a> <br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhinLe8xilhG4USVxzwL0lIBg3eyMQhlveo1SOYgD7SfUze29_i7kLe2pr_QQWPbU21rSJ_0DqR4fridGDHggSjrib5JZzWyoeQlIpnWgqsyBGeNlkW4TSbPVShJpxHfH-YhEIOh6nVo4X4/s1600-h/Halloween+011.jpg"><img style="CLEAR: both; FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhinLe8xilhG4USVxzwL0lIBg3eyMQhlveo1SOYgD7SfUze29_i7kLe2pr_QQWPbU21rSJ_0DqR4fridGDHggSjrib5JZzWyoeQlIpnWgqsyBGeNlkW4TSbPVShJpxHfH-YhEIOh6nVo4X4/s400/Halloween+011.jpg" border="0" /></a> <br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTKhVL49Y2iy9v4W863fN1xV0hsh3ct_jY0aK5PgkZ8O3c6UuJ71zFbQZe9gEdB3WvVXF4T-uo0bXlk9-kRk5B_rGJQvi2kMcAkkKj_5AFA1UJRIrSpDr_1LRtY4DIuAXg33z2TCy3dJQw/s1600-h/Halloween+044.jpg"><img style="CLEAR: both; FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTKhVL49Y2iy9v4W863fN1xV0hsh3ct_jY0aK5PgkZ8O3c6UuJ71zFbQZe9gEdB3WvVXF4T-uo0bXlk9-kRk5B_rGJQvi2kMcAkkKj_5AFA1UJRIrSpDr_1LRtY4DIuAXg33z2TCy3dJQw/s400/Halloween+044.jpg" border="0" /></a><div style='clear:both; text-align:RIGHT'><a href='http://picasa.google.com/blogger/' target='ext'><img src='http://photos1.blogger.com/pbp.gif' alt='Posted by Picasa' style='border: 0px none ; padding: 0px; background: transparent none repeat scroll 0% 50%; -moz-background-clip: initial; -moz-background-origin: initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: initial;' align='middle' border='0' /></a></div>Mrs. McGrewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06976357285671434436noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3189283602995169910.post-9601178947190611362008-10-27T13:45:00.000-05:002008-10-27T13:45:54.452-05:00Career DayToday was Career Day at the kids' school. It's part of Red Ribbon Week and each day they dress up like I remember doing for Homecoming Week. I'm not entirely sure since it's supposed to be a connection to keeping kids off drugs. Will this help her ten years from now to "JUST SAY NO" ? Somehow I doubt it, but one can be hopeful.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgw168MkBnJT68OUGaFj5XRkfnEUazsz83Hy4OwoC2yx4btYRC9jjllcJkk6YXTcS8TnmqRF3boiBQArdcs6LH-nLf1jq1179SIc3vlTsVo0lyWtMuCyy6n4XDt16sJNEiRI9k-C-6bJAUE/s1600-h/Hope+K-State+Cheer+004.jpg"><img style="CLEAR: both; FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgw168MkBnJT68OUGaFj5XRkfnEUazsz83Hy4OwoC2yx4btYRC9jjllcJkk6YXTcS8TnmqRF3boiBQArdcs6LH-nLf1jq1179SIc3vlTsVo0lyWtMuCyy6n4XDt16sJNEiRI9k-C-6bJAUE/s400/Hope+K-State+Cheer+004.jpg" border="0" /></a> Grandma bought her the K-State cheerleader outfit last week and decided to wear it today. Perhaps she is thinking of making college a career like her mama?<br />Holden was all set last night to dress as his intended occupation of scuba diver, but morning came early and crank came with it. He was willing last night to wear swim trunks and surf shirt but when I helped him put on his long johns to go underneath (it was 34 degrees this morning) the idea was not so appealing so he has on a soccer jersey and jeans. He will be a professional soccer player-- David Beckham watch out!<br />A final note: She has a tatoo necklace around her neck. I'd rater it be the fake tatoos now than a real one later. Anthony was a hoot! I must tell you he enjoyed his Indian and the Jones Lego set Grandma bought for him at Wally World. He played with it with Holden and Hope, but he liked being Indian and the Jones (Indiana Jones).<br /><br /><br />When I finally got my camera back from Holden (the future Ansel Adams) I had to crack up at this picture which could not be worse of me or my mom. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree does it. I'm pretty sure we were getting on to one or all of the kids. The best part is that baby Jonathan is wearing the coolest shirt ever that I got for him. It says My Aunt Rocks (size 18 mo). It fits him quite well and we had a good time sporting it that day.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvhQoFi3vfrcooEa9f7Pj75rBiugl0KI0XOXWmNmXHSqC0lIO99rZ0Yr80iNxSrTddrcaSXtgNDzmewv66XTer4TKAq-R3oiEoKCi1d7uDQJR40G0BEuvZgueI-o1GevZnDbLXFl_nRerz/s1600-h/Trip+to+Kansas+(200).jpg"><img style="CLEAR: both; FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvhQoFi3vfrcooEa9f7Pj75rBiugl0KI0XOXWmNmXHSqC0lIO99rZ0Yr80iNxSrTddrcaSXtgNDzmewv66XTer4TKAq-R3oiEoKCi1d7uDQJR40G0BEuvZgueI-o1GevZnDbLXFl_nRerz/s400/Trip+to+Kansas+(200).jpg" border="0" /></a> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmfVbIX0PwS49r37sRC8eDYdEfdXzKqsnJs0drtqgTvNYSYVATyDX4C9xbRzyTK1o49pr0MCIjfXStOno7g4VIKOb_ICmPTNIj6-IXj81SCSE3oTVBYV8HHlbfBv7qx9ZasLSU0vpsR6EH/s1600-h/Trip+to+Kansas+(217).jpg"><img style="CLEAR: both; FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmfVbIX0PwS49r37sRC8eDYdEfdXzKqsnJs0drtqgTvNYSYVATyDX4C9xbRzyTK1o49pr0MCIjfXStOno7g4VIKOb_ICmPTNIj6-IXj81SCSE3oTVBYV8HHlbfBv7qx9ZasLSU0vpsR6EH/s400/Trip+to+Kansas+(217).jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeFViOKey9EviE5hZrMHA47HoRCl7wAGxV0OVHj6YP3PjKwlZLpdarzTuAzZZP5ZDAYnIUutcdwILPlgM2-d-nV9A4EgBqr6mYgIQOj1gG4eQ4Oe2cwpR90fXP0ni0LQVA0s5TsqUDIQWA/s1600-h/Trip+to+Kansas+(231).jpg"></a>This is one of my favortie shots we got during the trip. The first game you can see Holden in the top picture on the far right agaist three kids from the other team. Holden doesn't worry so much making his uniform match so much as just having the right shirt on. This is his sixth season playing with as many shirts.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />The second picture his the ball bouncing off of him. He's pretty funny to watch because he's figured out how to get the ball to go off his chest and head and he can't just kick the ball gently, he has to bomb it at someone. You can tell this girl is a little worried when she sees he's got it.<br /><br />Our biggest goal for Holden is to keep him from being a ball hog. He's a lot more aggressive than a lot of the other kids and he'll just go after it. We can be heard yelling at him from the sidelines, "Same team!"<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKcsuPYTrlVJ3RtQteBYBNReH7lYvSB4gPQ0Qv60pf7jLerdfM2zWys-EzDxenpCoR6YlAcrtPsgSZ8PWouATWilvWCmQbiuj133Fp4fOzT16ND7ONOz0xQa4MeshJgpfMO9oH1VGrzdBE/s1600-h/10+October-+soccer+058.jpg"><img style="CLEAR: both; FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKcsuPYTrlVJ3RtQteBYBNReH7lYvSB4gPQ0Qv60pf7jLerdfM2zWys-EzDxenpCoR6YlAcrtPsgSZ8PWouATWilvWCmQbiuj133Fp4fOzT16ND7ONOz0xQa4MeshJgpfMO9oH1VGrzdBE/s320/10+October-+soccer+058.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />In the <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQDDw-GozsHAnbrOkqElud6Znk6zEDG9dstqDW9CUjbufOx1USZunKuQL80YY_aIn5H2UnJHIhFd2n1Co_r1XpoQr-6tBZ4VIxS6lRBl5bZSlMNV8LDTBmQT9_w9MsNHST7g-UsKaAGYCK/s1600-h/10+October-+soccer+061.jpg"><img style="CLEAR: both; FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQDDw-GozsHAnbrOkqElud6Znk6zEDG9dstqDW9CUjbufOx1USZunKuQL80YY_aIn5H2UnJHIhFd2n1Co_r1XpoQr-6tBZ4VIxS6lRBl5bZSlMNV8LDTBmQT9_w9MsNHST7g-UsKaAGYCK/s320/10+October-+soccer+061.jpg" border="0" /></a> two games I've posted here he managed to knock down three kids. I told Tom he needed to be with the bigger kids but he didn't listen to me. In one game he scored a goal off the goalie's head. Which would be impressive to see if it wasn't your kid and all the parents turn and look at you afterward. Are you supposed to be proud after that or concerned someone's going to go after your tires in the parking lot. In the game against the orange team one girl went after the ball Holden was taking down field and then she saw him and turned around and ran off in the other direction. Again, be proud or concerned? We've talked about passing the ball which he's doing much better at and not drilling every ball he gets into someone's head, but we also want him to be a good player. We'll see how things turn out. I think it might be time for a traveling team with some older kids and coaches that can train him a little better. Goodness knows we don't know what's going on half the time.<br /><div style="CLEAR: both; TEXT-ALIGN: left"><a href="http://picasa.google.com/blogger/" target="ext"><img style="BORDER-RIGHT: 0px; PADDING-RIGHT: 0px; BORDER-TOP: 0px; PADDING-LEFT: 0px; BACKGROUND: 0% 50%; PADDING-BOTTOM: 0px; BORDER-LEFT: 0px; PADDING-TOP: 0px; BORDER-BOTTOM: 0px; -moz-background-clip: initial; -moz-background-origin: initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: initial" alt="Posted by Picasa" src="http://photos1.blogger.com/pbp.gif" align="middle" border="0" /></a></div>Mrs. McGrewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06976357285671434436noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3189283602995169910.post-84557383366641081352008-10-10T08:31:00.000-05:002008-10-10T08:32:31.986-05:00Lot's Going on<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhgDtOrEoUq2IDohVirJqg1dt2JuquRbRet8tjS4G65tv4xBqQ0LoZ4HUPcvPkPuKJh5eK5fucIH4QcQmukemsp_etvurOG2OGH5hhesuIlBOEW1o1epRn_054vfig9SGRjestnlnMoNaY/s1600-h/10+October-+cheerleading+011.jpg"><img style="CLEAR: both; FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhgDtOrEoUq2IDohVirJqg1dt2JuquRbRet8tjS4G65tv4xBqQ0LoZ4HUPcvPkPuKJh5eK5fucIH4QcQmukemsp_etvurOG2OGH5hhesuIlBOEW1o1epRn_054vfig9SGRjestnlnMoNaY/s320/10+October-+cheerleading+011.jpg" border="0" /></a> Cheerleading for Hope has kept us pretty busy. She has practice twice a week and then cheers for the K-1 football games on Saturday. It's generally pretty entertaining. Being the lightest on the team generally earns her a spot on top of the pyramid. At 36 pounds, I don't think the 'base' girls mind too much.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /> <br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0cSHs-O_d-P8EDY-qR8Rnef61x0y9M58jiGCH0VpWrkTmfxQAd1KiJP7xuQ85i-2XuY81nJQgcJnWE8JkNSfVdm0BnoGAMzApF2tduRL1FD1BGwmuQlI5XFFcKxLVYI5d_BcJSxi0DkG1/s1600-h/10+October-+cheerleading+091.jpg"><img style="CLEAR: both; FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0cSHs-O_d-P8EDY-qR8Rnef61x0y9M58jiGCH0VpWrkTmfxQAd1KiJP7xuQ85i-2XuY81nJQgcJnWE8JkNSfVdm0BnoGAMzApF2tduRL1FD1BGwmuQlI5XFFcKxLVYI5d_BcJSxi0DkG1/s320/10+October-+cheerleading+091.jpg" border="0" /></a> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJe9rgsEq4IsbnpvzkybQuCpnHlkX6vcrX9SLkamvHuZqDe9gp4MkRrwgQYQ2ePUMBa2X6CP8xfE8oZZsAFr_zX4gXNdJxUPPOhWImKuQpus08SdnLa3YYbmV_kJZT8dbsI8opXWToaBAA/s1600-h/Field+Trip+(94).jpg"><img style="CLEAR: both; FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJe9rgsEq4IsbnpvzkybQuCpnHlkX6vcrX9SLkamvHuZqDe9gp4MkRrwgQYQ2ePUMBa2X6CP8xfE8oZZsAFr_zX4gXNdJxUPPOhWImKuQpus08SdnLa3YYbmV_kJZT8dbsI8opXWToaBAA/s320/Field+Trip+(94).jpg" border="0" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7ERdDPJpu8Xy-x2kySgYoThmZRYsRfT-EWieKUhsD6St1VCQvGsyFez7ycSn_ehtjW2Jev4TkRz4Ncg0A0Gd9XGUX9ooRKqVqbp-nwtBPQkC0lmyzdMlbw1b7zjUy6mj978H6kJfuhjtq/s1600-h/100_7811.JPG"><img style="CLEAR: both; FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7ERdDPJpu8Xy-x2kySgYoThmZRYsRfT-EWieKUhsD6St1VCQvGsyFez7ycSn_ehtjW2Jev4TkRz4Ncg0A0Gd9XGUX9ooRKqVqbp-nwtBPQkC0lmyzdMlbw1b7zjUy6mj978H6kJfuhjtq/s320/100_7811.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />I had the pleasure of going with the kindergartners on their field trip to Deanna Rose Farmstead in Overland Park last Friday. I always get a little nervous about the kids riding on a bus on the interstate, but there seemed to be no incident. There were lots of other parent volunteers and we had to drive seperately. I didn't mind because when we were done it gave Hope and I a chance to go shopping in the city.<br />We had a great time on the field trip. Hope chose Jacob to be her partner and he is easy to keep track of and doesn't talk much. Eli came with us too because he's a lot of fun. Of course, at the end of the day Hope finally mentions that Eli didn't have the shirt tied around his waist that he started with. We looked all over for it and found lots of shirts and jackets, but none that were Eli's.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br />Hope's other big news is that she has lost two teeth now. She is thrilled the tooth fairy has come and left her money. The second tooth she just lost this week and she was very concerned because she lost it on the way home from school. There was a fear that the tooth fairy didn't pay out if there was no tooth. Fortunately, the tooth fairy is understanding in matters like this.<div style='clear:both; text-align:LEFT'><a href='http://picasa.google.com/blogger/' target='ext'><img src='http://photos1.blogger.com/pbp.gif' alt='Posted by Picasa' style='border: 0px none ; padding: 0px; background: transparent none repeat scroll 0% 50%; -moz-background-clip: initial; -moz-background-origin: initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: initial;' align='middle' border='0' /></a></div>Mrs. McGrewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06976357285671434436noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3189283602995169910.post-75122823985150424242008-09-27T14:07:00.000-05:002008-11-01T10:03:23.555-05:00Peter Pan Park<div style='text-align:center;margin:0px auto 10px;'><a href='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcrsrC-pqWewyr0xul9KtvOa6ixugzPeAGpCzGHC7ObpjVXC7Z-AIvDHwUpKMiQIErACd6ym8E7uM4gHExBQ3BQiudtSJvcQ4r1EJYxg8Vydl8tia4X9dHcQV_8K_sf7342w1orkOHJmpA/s1600-h/August+Labor+Day+264.jpg'><img src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcrsrC-pqWewyr0xul9KtvOa6ixugzPeAGpCzGHC7ObpjVXC7Z-AIvDHwUpKMiQIErACd6ym8E7uM4gHExBQ3BQiudtSJvcQ4r1EJYxg8Vydl8tia4X9dHcQV_8K_sf7342w1orkOHJmpA/s320/August+Labor+Day+264.jpg' border='0' alt='' /></a> </div><br /><br />I can't believe how much Peter Pan Park is still the same. I don't even remember the last time I was there since taking the kids, but I was amazed at how things are still the same. Though there is more modern playground equipment there is still the old stuff I remember playing on and according to the local paper they are getting ready to tear it down. Kind of sad, but necessary too. I love that the monkey house is still there, but completely filled in with grass. We had Holden run through it so there would be a "monkey" in the monkey house. My favorite shot of the more than 300 I took on the trip is this one with Tom and the kids leaned over feeding the lone duck that would come near us. I think they spent a good half hour with it. I loved it enough to want to move back :)!<div style='clear:both; text-align:CENTER'><a href='http://picasa.google.com/blogger/' target='ext'><img src='http://photos1.blogger.com/pbp.gif' alt='Posted by Picasa' style='border: 0px none ; padding: 0px; background: transparent none repeat scroll 0% 50%; -moz-background-clip: initial; -moz-background-origin: initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: initial;' align='middle' border='0' /></a></div>Mrs. McGrewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06976357285671434436noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3189283602995169910.post-29587584416625038882008-08-20T16:43:00.000-05:002008-08-20T16:43:44.272-05:00First Day of School<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7FqSCvWOIPTHKv_CnDIQTuu73Jw_H_9N7br27y6FgiAB9ltS0LRhbWYggbtffVYYyK1w1mR9zEZwvoEeHEP_qJWmUSScZWJGDraHV7Nv0Kt78NE88gQxH71RORU5FjZ6nPkCTAzQvnh8E/s1600-h/100_7219.JPG"><img style="CLEAR: both; FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7FqSCvWOIPTHKv_CnDIQTuu73Jw_H_9N7br27y6FgiAB9ltS0LRhbWYggbtffVYYyK1w1mR9zEZwvoEeHEP_qJWmUSScZWJGDraHV7Nv0Kt78NE88gQxH71RORU5FjZ6nPkCTAzQvnh8E/s320/100_7219.JPG" border="0" /></a> <br />Last Thursday marked the first day of school for the kids at Whiteman Air Force Base Elementary. We've been trying to ride our bikes to everything on base to save gas and improve health. For the most part it works well, but when we get to a hill you can't help but feel bad for Hope while she's standing up and pumping those little legs. I've never heard her complain, but I do worry when I can't hear her training wheels skimming the ground anymore. I don't know what I'm going to do now that she's getting the hang of it. <br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJGYFk3ViTOFHGds-dKjhddbvAGT7tTRRxcxKWYWUbMBVw3FtMyBtd3cmnrj4UNgVr1BTD2unvnwWjpDo6nSKl8y6JfhRRaqa5VX9QB4qHKMSyfzbEXC8wCH53SQeKO5oXAhndU5nWUrjR/s1600-h/100_6502.JPG"><img style="CLEAR: both; FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJGYFk3ViTOFHGds-dKjhddbvAGT7tTRRxcxKWYWUbMBVw3FtMyBtd3cmnrj4UNgVr1BTD2unvnwWjpDo6nSKl8y6JfhRRaqa5VX9QB4qHKMSyfzbEXC8wCH53SQeKO5oXAhndU5nWUrjR/s320/100_6502.JPG" border="0" /></a> <br />They spent about an hour going up and down the street. She started getting the hang of it when they would go up the slight hill. I think it helped her to slow down a little. You have to give Tom credit because he ran beside her the entire time. <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPZLA7WjW2RBx5jNzFkDSJZnidzm6qEcdI2SMToRn4zsEpciC9duFNeN8mv_xoUGU9ExqDDzSQVswu8Ng3ds3ENirQef8QhnckMvBjwtd1FbhwAd2yejAV-7VLhNx95J9N_baA2nZlaQvR/s1600-h/100_6513.JPG"><img style="CLEAR: both; FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPZLA7WjW2RBx5jNzFkDSJZnidzm6qEcdI2SMToRn4zsEpciC9duFNeN8mv_xoUGU9ExqDDzSQVswu8Ng3ds3ENirQef8QhnckMvBjwtd1FbhwAd2yejAV-7VLhNx95J9N_baA2nZlaQvR/s320/100_6513.JPG" border="0" /></a> <br />We thought it would be a good idea to use Holden's old bike instead of taking the training wheels on and off her bike until she's got the hang of it. It was nice to be with a lot of family on the farm. We all had a good time and I did not fill up the car with goodies to take home with me. In fact, I think we left with less than we came with. I did find The history of Stratton, Colorado book in the barn when I was looking for a pair of pliers that I felt needed to be rescued. For some reason it was wet even though it was in the barn.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihFaHFJ_bq1FqB7OmEjM0VCzsEIMifyY_a_o-1Djaa6wPDfREXzOkIU2MnQsHIMI-vTtWWEWfv4bR12d4GwmbjeYMbl9ocQxVaqkGQGgcs12NU7GHFZn8vC5XGXlKZEwjdj-ejh1Fc9gap/s1600-h/Camera+083.jpg"><img style="CLEAR: both; FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihFaHFJ_bq1FqB7OmEjM0VCzsEIMifyY_a_o-1Djaa6wPDfREXzOkIU2MnQsHIMI-vTtWWEWfv4bR12d4GwmbjeYMbl9ocQxVaqkGQGgcs12NU7GHFZn8vC5XGXlKZEwjdj-ejh1Fc9gap/s320/Camera+083.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br />I felt the need to walk to the back of the property, but didn't get past the silo because it hadn't been mowed. It's amazing how much gas prices affect everything.<br /><br />We did get as far as the mulberry tree and even tried a few but they weren't as good as the ones at Tom's parents farm. Holden had fun just trying to get them down.<br /><br />It has been officially mandated by Deb Sue, aka the rock, that we need to come and build Papa a fence or kennel for the dog he does not yet have. I don't have a problem with that. We also need to come and help get some firewood for him for the winter. I'd like to do it before it gets god-awful hot, but we'll see how schedules work out.<br /><br />Just before we left we found a super odd looking caterpiller?? on the ground behind the van. Even Papa said he'd never seen one that looked like that. This isn't a very good picture but the head had what seemed like a fan on the front or maybe it was the back??<br /><br />On our way home we stopped at Dad and Gails to see the two new miniature donkeys they got. They are about the same height as Holden and Hope. This one in the picture is Antoinette and she is very, very preggers. It was weird to see her belly move. We can't wait to see how tiny the baby is! How exciting, babies everywhere. Aunt Sally is due at the end of the month too.<div style='clear:both; text-align:RIGHT'><a href='http://picasa.google.com/blogger/' target='ext'><img src='http://photos1.blogger.com/pbp.gif' alt='Posted by Picasa' style='border: 0px none ; padding: 0px; background: transparent none repeat scroll 0% 50%; -moz-background-clip: initial; -moz-background-origin: initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: initial;' align='middle' border='0' /></a></div>Mrs. McGrewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06976357285671434436noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3189283602995169910.post-87101026471539767112008-06-21T15:54:00.000-05:002008-06-21T15:55:19.014-05:00Our trip to Holden, MO<img style="CLEAR: both; FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvhf3rAK5oRTDM-iCsuiQflaqNXzVyiFpLwGO1uktjIPSdu2DAAJpPPIJioHsgGPCTBCMP805SlNmiVP7hqMDJUACXH51SlIPNaMbNaqmu0dS2s4lkuTKqqydrtdCfApbNY2pJnftMjz2y/s320/Camera+062.jpg" border="0" />We knew moving here over a year and a half ago that there was a town near the base called Holden. It took us until a week ago to finally drive over. First, we went to see Shawnee R-III the school where I will be librarian on Tuesdays and Technology coordinator on Thursdays. The rest of the week will be working at the college or substituting locally. Anyway, we decided to see the town for ourselves.<br /><br />We first came upon the high school which apparently is getting renovated. It's located on the outskirts of town and as we drove to the town center we saw more and more businesses with Holden's name. I'll add more pictures in another post. The most thrilling part of the day was stopping at Sonic. He was so excited that Holden had a Sonic-- we needed ice cream by then.<br /><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7NxGB_fUiPGWjVQG_zAa074Pg9XOCgUduoJhHR1XlRLtuvxyLH3-anXVyC1oVCTZcWuS1Xj0OBzm79LNNsw0IMriLn7wqytI8dbtT1TkBwte8StCxPes_t4z2Q10hRwKaJaC8g0JDPni0/s1600-h/Camera+065.jpg"><img style="CLEAR: both; FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7NxGB_fUiPGWjVQG_zAa074Pg9XOCgUduoJhHR1XlRLtuvxyLH3-anXVyC1oVCTZcWuS1Xj0OBzm79LNNsw0IMriLn7wqytI8dbtT1TkBwte8StCxPes_t4z2Q10hRwKaJaC8g0JDPni0/s320/Camera+065.jpg" border="0" /></a> <br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLU4s-ehSsQJPYP_ZJ_KL2cSfADiIE0CCMA1J4XJWMEYBqGSIxFtBTcS065Kp92Bia61JwwKoNtOgPbCCF2qHox62euE5_armHmjtVlmVisN8_key-oSM6XTkZCrgEoPUcDPh07y3mwlnq/s1600-h/Camera+066.jpg"><img style="CLEAR: both; FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLU4s-ehSsQJPYP_ZJ_KL2cSfADiIE0CCMA1J4XJWMEYBqGSIxFtBTcS065Kp92Bia61JwwKoNtOgPbCCF2qHox62euE5_armHmjtVlmVisN8_key-oSM6XTkZCrgEoPUcDPh07y3mwlnq/s320/Camera+066.jpg" border="0" /></a> <br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgh03qNbpne8dlgW940FRqSrloltdvK3ZT1CkRKOvZ7sIMTObHHMxslWcUMP2hgJFBx6jlYlRoYrWrt_cNlzOyIYcGUB0wVm4AbkLoGY6lcS7kK62GSRYyVABi3dLc7RAf-0a9Cjz0yPJnP/s1600-h/Camera+068.jpg"><img style="CLEAR: both; FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgh03qNbpne8dlgW940FRqSrloltdvK3ZT1CkRKOvZ7sIMTObHHMxslWcUMP2hgJFBx6jlYlRoYrWrt_cNlzOyIYcGUB0wVm4AbkLoGY6lcS7kK62GSRYyVABi3dLc7RAf-0a9Cjz0yPJnP/s320/Camera+068.jpg" border="0" /></a><div style='clear:both; text-align:LEFT'><a href='http://picasa.google.com/blogger/' target='ext'><img src='http://photos1.blogger.com/pbp.gif' alt='Posted by Picasa' style='border: 0px none ; padding: 0px; background: transparent none repeat scroll 0% 50%; -moz-background-clip: initial; -moz-background-origin: initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: initial;' align='middle' border='0' /></a></div>Mrs. McGrewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06976357285671434436noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3189283602995169910.post-25169584025339806242008-06-02T20:49:00.000-05:002008-06-02T20:49:30.421-05:00Birthday Girl!<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9-G5eZ3P9ZLpkwO6mqkSOgKkUg7y3WwRTwJKu21Vuo3x0SUrfZoiOUSiWtbcMebc8txOT0jmUsFp3srejJOqpIfAXSqIbciT5FDqppSuBlp9kAcovnBkkd6G2pM1V7Z3UjM9tUCGvQYPc/s1600-h/PIC-0173.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_" style="CLEAR: both; FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9-G5eZ3P9ZLpkwO6mqkSOgKkUg7y3WwRTwJKu21Vuo3x0SUrfZoiOUSiWtbcMebc8txOT0jmUsFp3srejJOqpIfAXSqIbciT5FDqppSuBlp9kAcovnBkkd6G2pM1V7Z3UjM9tUCGvQYPc/s320/PIC-0173.jpg" border="0" /></a> For Hope's big 5th birthday she had a lot going on. She'd been asking for a while to get her ears pierced and I promised her for her 5th birthday she could do it. The week before the big day we went to Lee's Summit and did some shopping. I asked her if she was ready and she said she needed to go eat, she was a little nervous.<br />After lunch we went to Claire's Boutique where getting your ears pierced is a lot more than I remember. She picked out lovely earings that look like flowers with a blue center. The girl that got her ready was very nice and helped her through. Hope was quite brave the whole time. They did both ears at once and the look on her face was priceless. I think she really wanted to cry, but she got through it. Once it was done she went on a shopping spree looking at all the things she "needed"-- butterfly wings because she's having a butterfly party, an earring holder, butterfly tattoos, etc. Even Holden was a fabulous big brother and when she saw a Hannah Montanna microphone she really, really needed, he snuck off and bought it for her. What a good big brother!<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrEagSPSoUX3OLaN8DSYQIEISiFePJ9XL9zla9eV2_bvWtdv9uji-aT-6QtdEdYZWiLvwwMVOcVhaih63-6Jlgx80nWZtqoQvU7Gnx2vh5Gpgu2VjIsm4brXD5_IDZhwsN8wVFVaQqO5AL/s1600-h/PIC-0175.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_" style="CLEAR: both; FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrEagSPSoUX3OLaN8DSYQIEISiFePJ9XL9zla9eV2_bvWtdv9uji-aT-6QtdEdYZWiLvwwMVOcVhaih63-6Jlgx80nWZtqoQvU7Gnx2vh5Gpgu2VjIsm4brXD5_IDZhwsN8wVFVaQqO5AL/s320/PIC-0175.jpg" border="0" /></a> <br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrBIsi37LYMRwZqCcZ20RQ8FGObGaiJmlgdN8jw8Ku5ciV_40S0thUmeYmTEJlvTU0djO22Hwy1F06rf95J0AhCU02wT84ayrUTBGUoG03NTFKBX-BzmBObAYKY_mxOYibOjYb8SKAkkYY/s1600-h/PIC-0180.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_" style="CLEAR: both; FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrBIsi37LYMRwZqCcZ20RQ8FGObGaiJmlgdN8jw8Ku5ciV_40S0thUmeYmTEJlvTU0djO22Hwy1F06rf95J0AhCU02wT84ayrUTBGUoG03NTFKBX-BzmBObAYKY_mxOYibOjYb8SKAkkYY/s320/PIC-0180.jpg" border="0" /></a> On the night before her birthday with Daddy home we opened her piggy bank. It's a tradition to open your super special piggy bank that Papa Smith made every five years. She was money bags with over $300! She had to put half in her bank account and she could spend the other half. I'm pretty sure there isn't a Littlest Pet Shop out there that she doesn't have now. Here are some photos from last month of all our discoveries. First Hope found an empty robin's egg on a walk, but it didn't make it home. Later, Holden found one in our yard.<br /><br />Then one evening we found a frog that had to be played with incessantly. Poor thing! Holden was good about checking him out and then letting him go. Hope on the other hand wanted to touch him and pet him and squeeze him all over. She kept tracking him down as he attempted to make a run for it. Some frogs will never learn :)<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCj98hIJMKYuIg7fuoDcTsoj7et4EVpUksmI_FvheGfJ9ysJH7k7r12X_rcm8_kUqZA9wkcgq9POUlxr8_5iKz0SSVKurjAHXGJCmC0TCriWjM8oVhNZAszpb1uu58n261nWH_o3wkk4-Q/s1600-h/100_6357.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_" style="CLEAR: both; FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCj98hIJMKYuIg7fuoDcTsoj7et4EVpUksmI_FvheGfJ9ysJH7k7r12X_rcm8_kUqZA9wkcgq9POUlxr8_5iKz0SSVKurjAHXGJCmC0TCriWjM8oVhNZAszpb1uu58n261nWH_o3wkk4-Q/s320/100_6357.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><br />I wish I had put a ruler by this HUGE moth Hope found on the neighbor's tree. She kept hollering at me to come and see what she'd found and I kept putting it off assuming she'd discovered another roly poly (really, how many can you ooohhhh and aaahhh over?). A few minutes later I saw her poking at a tree with a big stick and noticed what looked like a bird trying to flutter away. It caught the attention of a cat and he tried to eat it. This thing was huge. I've promised that we will try and find out what kind it is on the internet. This is on my list of projects to do.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibmZ05awcsby-zOd3rWNehvBlRDLxkpI8sLW4UErtY2ufPizYyc92b2M-tyBc0z-teQ3WPH9Cu15lRG3p3uJ1YDLcbtTiN-Tp_d0tWRczk-DLj2kGM3gBl5u8je6uuDpM1jECjGs5-24km/s1600-h/100_6377.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_" style="CLEAR: both; FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibmZ05awcsby-zOd3rWNehvBlRDLxkpI8sLW4UErtY2ufPizYyc92b2M-tyBc0z-teQ3WPH9Cu15lRG3p3uJ1YDLcbtTiN-Tp_d0tWRczk-DLj2kGM3gBl5u8je6uuDpM1jECjGs5-24km/s320/100_6377.JPG" border="0" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAoJHJmCrY58xFhrjLdKnG4Iczr_p1ASdSxlt02o8SgNl7CZDHd4LdZ0JlYkGMfpV4nSPNzZfjBQ__zTT7lPvBdgZgjzeG0AaDl8znlgfdijdKGcKhmLvm7RnMYk25ym3AiUl1rUw_T236/s1600-h/100_6371.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_" style="CLEAR: both; FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAoJHJmCrY58xFhrjLdKnG4Iczr_p1ASdSxlt02o8SgNl7CZDHd4LdZ0JlYkGMfpV4nSPNzZfjBQ__zTT7lPvBdgZgjzeG0AaDl8znlgfdijdKGcKhmLvm7RnMYk25ym3AiUl1rUw_T236/s320/100_6371.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br />The other picture is of Holden playing golf. I signed him up for lessons because he's been interested since he saw the kids from Rancocas Valley play and had Mr. Turner (the golf coach) make him feel cool when they played at McGuire. He's assured me since he was two that he knew all there was to know, but lessons would be nice. For two weeks he was able to play with the pro and he got a golf bag, shirt and hat as well. Hope was thrilled that she could run around collecting random golf balls and broken tees.<br />I found out on the second to last day that there was a parent/child scramble. My only familiarity with golf was my freshman year in college when my volleyball coach made me take 2 credit hour golf class taught by the football coaches. Our day was quite interesting, didn't know where we were going, didn't know that golf carts don't make noise when you start them, didn't think to bring a ball with us to the first tee! Once we got started, we had a great time. I'm on the lookout for super cheap clubs (think thrift store) to take him out to play everyonce in a while. We'll likely do it again in July. :)<div style='clear:both; text-align:RIGHT'><a href='http://picasa.google.com/blogger/' target='ext'><img src='http://photos1.blogger.com/pbp.gif' alt='Posted by Picasa' style='border: 0px none ; padding: 0px; background: transparent none repeat scroll 0% 50%; -moz-background-clip: initial; -moz-background-origin: initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: initial;' align='middle' border='0' /></a></div>Mrs. McGrewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06976357285671434436noreply@blogger.com0
